I’m in my kitchen making ramen noodles, and suddenly I start hearing an occasional…SQUAWK.
I’m thinking…well…maybe our new neighbors brought in a pet bird. Or also maybe, something is squeaky on our roof (which was just worked on). But I kept hearing it, and my husband hadn’t heard anything about a parrot next door.
So I peek outside, and sure enough there’s a parrot next to our kitchen window. I get my husband and I’m like HEY. PARROT.
Parrot?
PARROT.
So we both walk back to the door and he’s sitting right on the edge of the door looking at us like, “ok let me in now”. I open the door, and sure enough, the little dude just wanders in.
So long story short, I have a parrot now and I’d really like to see if I can find his owners because I have no idea what to do with a bird. The link above will take you to a craigslist ad.

Also in the meantime I’ve named him Boddaert after the naturalist who assigned quaker parrots their binomial. He is obvs not interested.

heres the tldr: got our paycheck the 1st of this month, and were already bankrupt.

the long story for those who care: weve been struggling financially for
months now, and often end up by the last week of the month having to
eat nothing but noodles. and i do mean nothing. last month a friend was
rad enough to help us do more groceries, but we cant rely on him every
time the fridge goes empty, yknow.
weve been unemployed for almost a year now and living off financial help from some french organization. we get like 500€ a month. except each month we end up at almost -100€ or -200€. the rent is 230€. then there are the start of the month groceries, this time they were 80€. then electricity bills, bus pass and stuff.
we wont make it this month. not without help. the electricity bill is due in two days, were currently at -30€. were hoping the bank will allow another deficit. hell, were not believers but at this point were praying.
so if any of you have the possibility to help and want to, wed be so. fucking. thankful.

long story short: i love my partner (and best friend of 6 years) and want to be with them. coming out is not an option because it almost happened and ended poorly.

And Sarah has been told that she must stay in this facility for a whole year. So instead of being surrounded by friends and extended family who love and support Sarah for who she is, she’ll be isolated in a place where the fact that she is gay is treated as a sin and an illness. Instead of preparing for college and competing in the state debate tournament, she’ll be doing forced labor every day and enduring Bible-based “therapy” for her “disease.”
She is not allowed phone calls or email or any form of computer communication. She is also not allowed visitors and cannot leave the property. She is completely cut off from the outside world. She tried to run away, but was caught by the staff and returned to the facility.
Sarah’s extended family and close friends are trying to win her release through the legal system, but it’s not cheap. Attorney’s fees in the first few weeks have already exceeded $20,000, and they are continuing to mount, with a full hearing set for July. Sarah needs your help. But this is about more than just one gay kid – if we free Sarah we can help show that it’s not okay to try to make gay teens straight by sending them away and using the threat of God against them.
