omg YES you hit exactly all the same points i did. holy shit that song, it’s *haunting* i love it a lot. and the thing with tommen was so understated like my brain just didn’t want to register it at first.
THE LIBRARY i made a post about it http://willow-wanderings.tumblr.com/post/146576704582/i-just-want-to-point-out-that-the-depiction-of-the also some nerdy ranting about the chandelier

yeah if there’s anything that’ll stay with me from the episode it’s that song and the tommen scene, tbh.

THE LIBRARY WAS AMAZING also i read your post a couple days ago and i think i left a reply, but jic: that’s some pretty good points you made about the chandeliers. what are the maesters up to? (or could it be a possibility that the library, chandeliers included, was built very long ago by another people and that the technology has since been forgotten, records of it destroyed… ?)

OKAY so as said in the tags i still watch game of thrones despite how shitty it can be (anyone who’s ever talked GoT with me knows i’m literally the first to criticise anything about it from plot nonsense to shitty character treatment to Bad Writing), mostly out of habit and because it starts airing right before summer break for me. but the season 6 finale erased pretty much any regrets i could have had about not having stopped watching. it’s such a fucking masterpiece i don’t even know where to begin??
didn’t re-read it’s too long. way longer than i expected or than it had any right to be, lol. sorry about possible typos and grammatical mistakes.

probably with the awesome music. like this piece right here is going to be stuck in my head forever. it’s already beautiful on it own but it goes SO WELL with the scenes it’s used in, and it’s an unusual enough musical style in GoT that you know Shit Is Getting Serious but also idk it’s such a contrast with what is happening i. the first 20 minutes of this episode are an Adventure. u got soft music and feeling of DREAD but you don’t really know why, and then shit actually goes down, and you’re kinda left on the side of the metaphorical road like “ummmmm what just happened no”, but the music is still there being all soft despite all the harshness onscreen, and shit idk how to describe that feeling but believe me it is an Emotion. AND the visuals were just perfect, the lights, the symmetry often used, the actors’ faces like. wow.

the rest of the episode was less musically noticeable (although the use of silence to emphasise seriousness was frequent enough to be noticed, but never felt out of place or overused), but just as visually stunning. like, one of my favourite shows aesthetically speaking is hannibal and that’s the vibe this GoT ep gave me, when usually for me it doesn’t even come close. as i said the light and symmetry but also the fact that most of it was slow-paced so you actually had time to let things sink in.

pacing. it wasn’t very action-based, especially not compared to the EPIC BATTLE™ we got in the previous episode, but damn if it wasn’t just as intense. so many revelations, so many characters either getting closure or planning for an uncertain future, and the changes between scenes are so well-done, both thematically and visually. the loose ends from the season actually feel either tied or in the process of being tied. new threads open and you’re left wondering. it was a very fulfilling finale for both closure of past events and paving the way for what follows (which frankly was something the other season finales lacked).

there was only one thing that kinda squicked me, but it’s more of a personal squick than something part of the Usual Problematics for GoT. this episode had none of that. at no point did i have to deactivate my “social justice filter” to actually enjoy the episode. honestly that is not a regular feat for GoT at all lol so i think it should be noted.

that was an attempt at organising a bit, but let me ramble on some more. it’s going to be super disorganised and i might edit if i think of other things after i post. also it’s going to be a lot more spoilery, i tried to stay vague and general for the first part of the post but now we’re getting into specifics.

  • i have never felt so conflicted watching GoT as i did when Lancel was trying to get to the candles before the flames reached the wildfire. i was kind of rooting for Cersei (she’s not perfect but got enough shit thrown at her, both literally and metaphorically), but at the same time i didn’t want the sept to blow up (in no small part bc Margaery was in it ;^;)
  • Cersei oh my god. she’s not fucking around. also i fucking love her clothes i want the same clothes give them to me.
  • the thing that squicked me was having kids kill Pycelle. like i’ve been waiting for that guy to die since season 1 he’s gross and i don’t like him, but fuck Qyburn (and Cersei, likely) for exploiting and manipulating poor kids into doing shit like that, as if they couldn’t do it themselves. that’s wrong.
  • Margaery :c
  • have i mentioned the music? and the silence? bc fuck me that was so cool
  • if there’s one scene i’ll remember from that episode it’s Tommen. fuck if that wasn’t well-filmed (and heartbreaking as all fuck). and the transition i am fucking dying. i love dying and being dead
  • @walder ‘don’t wanna ruin the family name’ frey: it’s too late for that my guy. too fucking late
  • the scene in oldtown was like a goddamn fucking Manual To Secondhand Embarrassment. BUT THE LIBRARY FUCK IM A NERD BUT THATS SUCH A COOL LIBRARY OK
  • Davos i love Davos he is a good egg. i love Sansa also. it was so good seeing her and Jon bond. (winter is here ahaha finally it’s been 6 seasons talk about teasing)
  • Dorne! i am very sad we did not get to see more of Dorne bc i liked the books’ plot there. but it got absolutely fucking thrown in the trash :c
  • daenerys worries me. at least she’s got a good Hand (i mean, good at what he does which is strategy)
  • i am still not convinced that this is really Arya. like call me skeptical but until i’ve seen it confirmed she’s like Schrödinger’s Arya to me. it’s too unlikely for her to have survived a fight against a trained assassin while being severely incapacitated. i don’t care about the whole “oh she’s been trained to fight blind!” thing. another faceless man would have that training too. they’re like the ultimate assassins, Arya can be good but i’m not sure her plot armour is that thick. for all i know the faceless men took her hit list and ran with it.
  • baelish no. sansa yes. put the creep back in the trash where he belongs
  • bran’s face when he learns about Jon’s true parentage is fucking priceless
  • THE TRANSITION IT WAS AN OBVIOUS THING TO DO BUT AAAAAH
  • smol lady mormont gives me life. i love her. more of her next season please
  • the king in the north noooo i am having the feels. i hope he doesn’t end up like the previous one. i don’t trust baelish throw him in the trash i don’t like the way he looks all shifty and shit
  • THE FLEET DEAR FUCKING FUCK talk about an ending

anyway yeah that’s about it i guess lol. it’s one of the only tv show episodes i’ve actually rewatched right after i finished it, that’s just how intense and Excellent it was. i can only hope season 7 keeps it up. i’m not expecting them to top that on every episode, it would be hard. but at least do just as well. if GoT can do that once it can do it again that’s my new standard for it. fuck.
